- Golden Bridge Attraction in Da Nang
- How to get there in detail
- Should you actually go?
What is Golden Bridge (Hand of God)?
First, a brief introduction to Golden Bridge.
- Location: Golden Bridge is located in the Ba Na Hills resort. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours by car from Da Nang. Detailed directions will be provided later.
- Design: The most distinctive element of the Golden Bridge is the giant hand sculpture and the bridge supported by it. The name Golden Bridge is derived from the fact that the bridge’s railings and walkways are painted gold.
- Length and Height: Golden Bridge is approximately 150 meters long and sits at an elevation of approximately 1,400 meters. Thus, visitors can enjoy beautiful views and cooler temperatures even in summer.
- History: It was completed relatively recently, in June 2018. It is said to have taken one year to create and cost approximately two hundred billion to construct.
I was surprised to hear that the construction cost was 200 billion, but since I myself went to Da Nang to see the Hand of God, many tourists would be interested in this bridge for the same reason. Therefore, it was probably worth the investment to attract visitors.
How to get to Golden Bridge (Hand of God)
As mentioned earlier, Golden Bridge is located in the Ba Na Hills. It is about 30 km away from the center of Da Nang and takes about 1.5 hours by car. Since there is no public transportation such as trains or buses, the only way to reach the Golden Bridge is by car.
Detailed directions are provided below.
Tour Buses
There is a round-trip tour bus service from Da Nang to Ba Na Hills.
I actually used that to get to the Golden Bridge, using an optional tour booking site called Klook, and it cost me 6.47 USD round trip.
Grab
Of course, you can also use the car-dispatch app Grab to get there. I can’t say for sure since I haven’t used it myself, but I checked online and it seems that you can get there if you spend about 25.87 USD for a round trip.
To go or not to go?
To give you my personal opinion, I don’t think you should go unless you really want to see it. The reasons, including those mentioned earlier, are as follows.
- If you don’t like amusement parks, you won’t enjoy any of the facilities except the Golden Bridge.
- Even if you only want to see the Golden Bridge, you will lose a whole day in sightseeing.
- The price is too high in Vietnam where prices are low.
You have to like amusement parks to enjoy them & it takes a long time.
To see the Golden Bridge, one must enter Sun World, an amusement park in Ba Na Hills. The bridge is only 150 meters long compared to the amusement park’s vast grounds.
So, even if the bridge ends, those who can enjoy the amusement park area can still enjoy the Golden Bridge.
Unfortunately, I am not of the disposition to enjoy amusement parks or theme parks.
As mentioned above, it is not possible to join a round-trip tour bus to the Golden Bridge -> see only the bridge and return immediately. The tour bus I booked, as well as other tour buses, usually arrive in the morning and stay until the evening.
The Golden Bridge itself was very impressive and moving, but personally, the rest of the tour content was not impressive. If you really want to see the Golden Bridge, be prepared to spend a whole day sightseeing.
Tickets are expensive.
Ticket prices are expensive. The admission fee alone is 900,000 VND (about 34.93 USD), and if you take into account the cost of the tour bus and lunch, it costs close to 64.69 USD.
In Vietnam, where prices are low, this may seem quite expensive.
If I may add a follow-up, the cost of the world’s longest ropeway used to get to the Golden Bridge is also included, so I don’t think it is insanely expensive when you think about it that way.
To sum up Golden Bridge sightseeing
The bridge itself is spectacular and I am glad I went to see it. Even if I don’t enjoy Sun World itself or think the price is too high, I have the satisfaction of having actually been to a place I wanted to visit (in other words, I no longer regret “I should have gone then”).
However, considering that it takes up a whole day and is expensive, we still do not recommend this place unless you really want to see it.
If you have time for a full day of sightseeing, you can make a day trip from Da Nang to Hoi An, although the time you can stay is limited. Should you sacrifice Hoi An? No, it is not.
Considering all these factors, I think you should visit Ba Na Hills only if you have enough time for sightseeing in Da Nang.
